About Me
The Environment
|
My name is Aubrey Organ and I grew up learning about the importance of the environment, the problems it is facing, and how to hopefully one day fix them. My mother, Robin Buchanan, founded the nonprofit organization called Project Green Schools. Their mission is to ¨develop the next generation of environmental leaders through education, project-based learning and community service.¨At an early age, I began helping at Earth Day events. While visiting places like the Franklin Park Zoo, Mass Audubon Society, and the Massachusetts State House, I learned how the physical world changes for living things. As time went on, I attended other events like being one of a few students invited to speak at a Climate Week NYC event sponsored by the UN and being invited to the White House Climate Change Event where I met the US Surgeon General, Vivek Murphy. For my senior project, I chose to start Rink Redemption as a way to contribute to the current global water problems we are facing.

Hockey
I have played hockey since I was seven years old and am currently on Villanova's Woman's Ice Hockey team in Pennsylvania. Driving up to a rink, piles of snow overflow parking lots. Fans are mesmerized as the Zamboni sprays water to create a fresh surface. According to the NHL, one professional sheet of ice requires approximately 13,500 gallons of water. With these facts in mind, I designed this initiative to help water conservation in hockey rinks, as well as creating an impact at the individual level. We have had a variety of events that serve the purpose of educating people on the current global issues, as well as motivating them to make daily changes to their lifestyles. |

My Mentors
¨In 10 NHL seasons (1986-96), Bob Sweeney distinguished himself as a smart and savvy center. Sweeney spent six of those seasons with the Boston Bruins playing on two Stanley Cup Finals teams. He also honed his golf game...With the Boston Bruins Foundation, Sweeney has gone from changing lines to changing lives. He relates, “We recently established made a $1 million, three-year commitment to the Special Olympics. The Foundation has created BFit, a program that teaches students about health, wellness, and exercise, and an education program that provides New England teachers with supplemental curriculum materials through the integration of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).¨
